There comes a point in every startup journey where you transition from shouting grand business plans into an empty room to actually seeing your name in print. For us at Football TravelHER, that moment arrived five days before our official launch, and frankly, we are still processing the shock.
When it came to getting the word out, we didn't just dip our toes into PR; we cannonballed straight into the deep end. We went on an absolute mission.
First, we targeted local newspapers and radio. Then we scaled up to regional Yorkshire outlets. Then we cast our net toward national platforms. And just to make sure the entire Western Hemisphere was looped in, Corinne conveniently reverted to her trusty early-year "Please be my friend" LinkedIn networking method. At this point, if you have a professional profile and a pulse anywhere on planet Earth, Corinne has likely tried to connect with you to talk about top-flight women’s football.
Miraculously, the strategy worked. Now, if you google us, you aren't just directed to our official website—you are met with multiple newspaper and website write-ups!
With the countdown clock ticking down to our go-live date, we officially made our media debut across The York Press, Yahoo News, and the Gazette & Herald. Seeing our mission to make top-flight women's football travel accessible to everyone plastered across actual news outlets? Suddenly, building a travel company didn't feel like a sleep-deprived fever dream anymore. It’s real. We are real. People are reading about us!
Of course, massive media exposure comes with one vital operational challenge: managing Corinne’s sheer, unadulterated excitement.
As it turns out, the only proven, scientifically backed method to get Corinne to finally shut up about our press coverage is to ensure her mouth is safely and strategically covered by the ‘📸' in every single published article.
Much to Heather’s absolute delight, the layout gods have smiled upon us. Every press photo features a neatly placed camera icon doing some heavy lifting, keeping the co-founder commentary to a muffled minimum.
The website launches in five days, the press are talking, and Heather finally has a moment of quiet. Life is good. ⚽📰✨
